What is the difference between 118°
and 135° Split Point Drill Bits
118° Point angles are used primarily in softer
materials such as mild steels and cast irons.
135° Split point should be used to cut harder steel
materials.
With a 135° drill point, you get thicker chips which
allows holes to be drilled faster especially when
coupled with HSS fully ground off cobalt drill bits.
The length of the lips on a 135° point drill, measured
from axis to the outer corners, is relatively short.
This enables quicker penetration into the
workpiece and reduces thrust and abrasion along
the cutting edges.
